Abstract

Though India achieved a very high progress in oilseed production after yellow revolution but we are still dependent on import of oil seeds and edible oils to fulfill our domestic consumption. India imports more than half of its domestic requirement which probably will increase in future due to high growth rate of population and increased per capita consumption. In India, the average yields of most oilseeds are extremely low as compared to other countries in the world. Role of sulphur in increasing the oil content of oilseed is well established. Since sulphur is an integral constituent of a containing amino acid like methionine, cysteine and cystine, increase in oil content due to sulphur application is concomitant with improvement in the quality of oil.
